제24회 서울국제대안영상예술페스티벌 대안영상예술 선정프로그램 글로컬 부문 및 장편 부문(글로컬) 본선진출작을 발표합니다.
ALT Cinema & Media Choice Program Glocal Section/Long-length Section Finals Announcement
올해 서울국제대안영상예술페스티벌에는 총 707편(상영 678편, 전시 29편)의 작품이 출품되었습니다.
2024년 4월 17일부터 5월 17일까지 한 달이라는 짧은 기간 동안에도 불구하고 출품해주신 다채로운 작품들을 공정하게 선정하여 글로컬 부문에서 14편, 장편 부문(글로컬)에서 2편의 작품을 선정하였습니다.
소중한 작품을 출품해주신 모든 작가님께 감사의 말씀을 전하며, 본선 진출작을 발표합니다.
A total of 707 works were submitted to this year's Seoul International ALT Cinema & Media Festival. As a result of fairly selecting the various works received from April 17 to May 17, 2024, 14 works in "Glocal Section" and 2 works in "Long-length Section" advanced to the finals.
The selected works will be screened at the Seoul International ALT Cinema & Media Festival, and the final winner will be selected after the screening during the festival (August 1 ~ August 7, 2024).

■ Review
코로나19의 영향이 줄어들면서 네마프 출품작들의 경향에도 변화가 감지되었다. 컴퓨터 그래픽과 가상 현실 기술을 활용한 작품 비중이 폭발적으로 증가했던 지난 몇 년간의 추세가 누그러진 점도 확연하다. 재난에 가까웠던 영상 제작 환경 하에서 그러한 형식을 경유하여 주제의식을 드러내던 작가들이 더 이상 우회로를 통하지 않고 본연의 주제와 형식을 탐색해가는 시점으로 보인다. 올해 글로컬 부문은 인권에 관한 장편이 많았고, 전쟁이나 사회적 금기에 관한 다큐를 시적인 감수성으로 풀어낸 실험적인 단편들이 개인적인 이목을 끌었다. 기성의 원숙미가 물씬 풍기는 작품보다는 열린 아름다움과 가능성을 품고 있는 작품들을 발견하고자 애썼다. 세계 각지로부터 출품된 다채로운 작품들을 극장에서 관객들과 함께 다시 만날 생각으로 가슴이 두근거린다.
As the impact of COVID-19 decreases, we've observed changes in the trends of NeMaf submissions. The significant rise in works using computer graphics and virtual reality technologies over the past few years has notably slowed down. Artists who previously used these formats to convey themes in a nearly catastrophic production environment now seem to be exploring their own unique themes and methods without detours. This year, the 'Glocal' section had many long-length films about human rights, and some experimental shorts that took a poetic approach to documentaries about war or social taboos stood out. I focused on finding films with new aesthetic possibilities rather than those with a conventional, cookie-cutter look. I'm excited to see these diverse works from around the world in theaters again.
As is the global trend, several AI films were submitted to this year's NEMAF. However, these AI films brought both amazement and a sense of relief. Despite their sleek appearance, AI films failed to captivate the hearts of the judges and were ultimately not selected. On the other hand, the films created by directors with their passionate hearts, delicate touch, and unique perspectives, though rough around the edges, stirred the soul. These filmmakers, even in challenging conditions, continuously observed the world with their heavy cameras, demonstrating that AI is still unable to surpass human creativity. Additionally, many works explored various themes such as memory, data, the other, gender, and art from fresh perspectives, breaking away from conventional frameworks. We actively selected meaningful attempts in animation and documentary as well. Most gratifyingly, many of the works were memorable enough to linger in one's thoughts long after viewing. It seems that the vivid impressions left on the eyes and hearts of NEMAF's audience will endure. This is perhaps something AI films may never achieve.
