DESCRIPTION

기념사진을 찍는 것은 시간 속의 한 순간을 기념하기 위한 행위이다. ‘졸업사진’ 같은 경우 지배권력의 기억으로 인해 필연적으로 촉발되는 역사의 공백 속에서 왜곡되고 잊혀져 가는 개개인들의 기억을 의미한다. 작가는 이러한 보통의 순간들이 반복되는 10개의 신들을 통해 그들 뒤에 숨겨진 다른 의미에도 불구하고 이들이 어떻게 계속해서 동일한 방식으로 되풀이 되는지를 보여준다.

Taking a souvenir photo is an act of commemorating a moment in time. The time that is captured and frozen in a photo connotes the memory that evolves and corrupts over time, and in turn, like a commencement photo of a graduating class, it signifies the memory of an individual that is distorted and buried under the blanket of history, which is essentially a memory of a dominant group. I repeat 10 scenes in succession to demonstrate how these ordinary moments or the annals of history are always recorded in the same manner, often despite the different meanings behind each record.

김세진 1994년 홍익대학교에서 동양화를 전공한 후 서강대학교 영상대학원에서 Film & TV 이론 석사학위를 받았으며, 런던대학의 슬레이드 스쿨 오브 파인아트에서 연출전공 석사학위를 받았다. <Inner-View>(2001), <이상사회>(2005), <Living on the Edge>(2006), <24HR City>(2009), <유체도시>(2014) 등의 개인전을 비롯, 수많은 그룹전 및 다양한 전시기획 프로그램 참여 및 수상 경력을 가지고 있다.

KIM Se-jin After graduating with a degree in Oriental Painting at Hongik University, KIM received his Masters Certificate of Film&TV Theory at the graduate school of Sogang University. He also holds a Masters certificate in film direction at the Slade School of Fine Art. KIM has held several solo exhibitions such as Inner-View (2001), Ideal Society(2005), Living on the Edge(2006), 24HR City(2009) and Fluid City (2014)
