DESCRIPTION
대안적인 소통 방법을 찾고자 하는 노력의 일환으로 진행된 이 프로젝트는 작가가 15년 넘게 제도권 교육에서 터득한 멋진 드로잉 기술로 현지인에게 초상화를 그려주고, 그 현지인들은 작가의 얼굴을 각자의 방식으로 되그려 준 드로잉을 모은 것이다. 또한, 이것이 전시 공간의 예술 작품으로 재번역되는 데 있어서, 실제 경험과 개인적 내러티브 사이의 복잡한 관계를 표면에 드러내기 위해 주변에서 발견되는 일상용품으로 유머러스하고 예기치 못한 방식으로 조합하였다.
Engaging with the local, I have played with people via object-based practice. I aim to find an alternative way for communication as well as make a contact zone. For example, while travelling I drew people’s portraits and asked them to draw me back. It was communication with people via the medium of drawing. The complex relationship between physical experiences and psychological narratives is a recurring theme in a multi-faceted body of work, typically manifesting itself in humorous narratives and clunky objects.
