DESCRIPTION
칠레 파타고니아 최남단부에 위치한 나바리노 섬에서 제작된 이 작품은 문화, 종교, 사회, 정치, 경제적 변화를 급속도로 겪으며 본래의 모습을 잃어가는 공동체의 현실을 포착한다. 사라져가는 원주민 야간족, 이주민들, 군사기지가 들어오면서 새롭게 정착한 사람들 모두 자신들의 터전이라 부르는 이곳의 다른 현실들이 펼쳐진다.
Approximation presents a portrait of a nation and community that violently underwent cultural and religious, social, political and economical transformation in a moment where it is about to disappear. Through an observational approach and the acceptance of the community Approximation makes not only visible the cruelty of anthropological practices in the region but appeals to a different kind of representation in moving images towards cultures that have existed long before the imperialistic gaze.

마리오 페이퍼
마리오 페이퍼는 독일 드레스덴 출신으로, 라이프치히와 베를린에서 비주얼 아트를 공부했다. 2008년 프랑크푸르트암마인 슈테델슐레를 졸업하고 2011년과 2013년에 캘리포니아 예술대학에서 풀브라이트 장학생으로 수학했다. 2010년, 독일 브레멘 비디오아트상을 수상했다. 전세계 여러 미술관에서 전시회를 열었으며 2015년 파리 예술 국제단지에서 거주 예술인으로 있었다. 마리오 페이퍼는 제작사 블랙보드필름의 창립자이기도 하다. |
Mario PFEIFER
Mario Pfeifer was born in Dresden, Germany. He studied visual arts at the academies in Leipzig and Berlin, and graduated from Städelschule Frankfurt am Main in 2008. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the California Institute of the Arts, a DAAD scholar in 2011 and 2013. In 2010 he received the Video Art Award Bremen, Germany. Numerous exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide. In 2015 he is an artist-in-residence at Cité internationale des Artes in Paris.
