DESCRIPTION
러시아 우랄 지역 남쪽은 ‘마약’의 핵 참사를 비롯한 여러 사고로 인해 지구상에서 가장 강한 방사능에 노출된 곳이다. 하지만 히로시마, 체르노빌과 달리 이 사실은 세상에 알려지지 않았고 지역 주민들은 엄청난 재앙을 그저 묵묵히 받아들이며 살고 있다. 영화는 흑백의 이미지로 지역이 아직도 겪고 있는 현실과 그 현실을 살아가는 생명력을 그렸다.
Settled in the middle of nowhere in the south Ural region in Russia, the film tells the story of people living in one of the most radioactive contaminated spots on earth. Unknown to a wide public, this region was repeatedly irradiated by different accidents of the nuclear facility „Mayak“, which was the first plant for the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union and which is still in operation. The filmmakers attempt is to find a cinematic translation for a danger that is not perceptible nor visual and to capture the strength of people who has to cope with it.

Sebastian MEZ Sebastian Mez was born in 1982 in Essen, Germany. In 2007 he made his first middle-length documentary <Do the Right Things> about capital punishment in Texas, USA, which premiered at the Max Ophuls Festival in 2008. |
