DESCRIPTION
옥인 콜렉티브의 <서울 데카당스-Live>는 이전 작업인 <서울 데카당스>의 확장판이자, 콜트콜텍 노동자 연극 ‘구일만 햄릿’의 거울 버전이라고 할 수 있다. 콜트콜텍에서 기타를 만들던 노동자들은 부당한 해고에 맞서 무려 8년이 넘는 시간동안 복직 투쟁을 하는 과정에서 때로는 밴드의 일원이 되고, 때로는 연극 배우가 되는 변화를 겪어왔다. 옥인 콜렉티브는 ‘구일만 햄릿’의 배우인 이인근, 임재춘 그리고 이 연극의 공동 연출인 진동젤리의 권은영과 매운콩을 배우로 캐스팅한다. 한없이 불투명에 가까워진 사건들로 가득 찬 서울, 그리고 그 속에 자리잡은 1940년대에 지어진 폐공장에서 실행된 전시/퍼포먼스에서 관객은 스스로의 감각에 의존해서 동선을 발굴할 때 숨겨진 이야기를 만나게 된다. 햄릿의 귀환을 기다리는 ‘구일만 햄릿’의 주인공들이 폐공장을 무대로 벌이는 장면/해프닝들은 본래의 공연 이전과 이후, 그리고 속내를 드러내며 새롭게 변주되었다. 다시 되풀이될 수 없는 반즉흥의 공연인 <서울 데카당스-Live>의 순간들은 영상작업으로 재제작 되어 또다른 만남의 가능성을 찾으려 한다. 오늘날 데카당스는 명백하게 예술 밖에 있다. 데카당스한 현실에 대적하는 ‘헛기술’로 이루어진 이 공간/무대/영상에서 옥인 콜렉티브는 한 청년 철학자의 질문을 생각한다. ‘앞으로의 사람들은 무엇에 희망을 걸고, 어떻게 환멸감을 이겨내면서 나아갈까’

옥인 콜렉티브
이정민, 김화용, 진시우로 구성된 옥인 콜렉티브는 첫 프로젝트의 장소이자 강제철거로 사라진 종로구 옥인아파트의 지명을 딴 미술가 그룹이다. 옥인콜렉티브는 특정지역으로부터 출발했지만, 주변에서 쉽사리 발견하게 되는 무수한 ‘옥인’을 기억하며 척박한 도시공간 속의 연구와 놀이, 예술과 사회의 관계, 예술과 향유자의 위치와 다양성에 대한 관심을 바탕으로 활동해 오고 있다. 단독 전시인 ‘옥인 오픈 사이트’(2010) '콘크리트 아일랜드'(2010) 외에 '안녕 없는 생활들, 모험들'(부산시립미술관, 2011), ‘Open Hangar'(스페인, 2012), ’Truth is Concrete'(오스트리아, 2012), ‘Acts of Vocing'(토탈미술관, 2013), ’no mountain high enough'(시청각, 2013), 10회 광주비엔날레(광주, 2014) 등 국내외 전시와 프로젝트, 레지던시 프로그램에 참여했다. 2010년 9월부터 현재까지 ‘옥인 콜렉티브 인터넷 라디오 스테이션 STUDIO+82’(http://okin.cc)를 운영 중이다. |
Okin Collective
OKIN COLLECTIVE Formed in 2009. Live and work in Seoul, South Korea. Okin Collective is composed of Jougmin Yi, Hwayong Kim and Shiu Jin. The name of the collective derives from Okin Apartment, a small residential complex where the collective showcased their first project while it was forcibly demolished. Born from a concern for those who were served with eviction notices during the process of urban development and by investigations into the intervention of capital, Okin Collective’s work expands toward countless manifestations of the same situation that are found everywhere in today’s world. Through different media encompassing installation, video, sound, and performance, Okin Collective exposes the absurd structure of capitalist society. Presented as improvisational theatre, Seoul Decadence (2013), for example, exposes the absurdity of the law through the case of Jung-geun Park, who was found guilty of violating the National Security Law by retweeting messages posted by a North Korean Twitter account. Rather than relying on binary oppositions Okin Collective deals with the relationship between art and society through strategies of mutual agreement, exchange, and intervention, transforming that relationship into one of awareness and self-reflection.
