ARTIST'S STATEMENT

작품은 현대사회에 내재되어 있는 익명화된 삭막함과 비감성적인 상황들로 인하여 배제되고 소외된 것들을 시각화하고자 한다. 나는 공공장소에 흔히 설치되어 있는 조형물들의 경직된 형태, 차가운 느낌 또는 남성 권력적 상징성에 대하여 의문을 품었다. 유동적인 퍼포먼스라는 매체에 유연한 의상이 지닌 여성적인 부드러움을 결부한 'soft sculpture’를 기존의 공공조형물과 대조시켜 조형물의 공공성에 대한 문제를 제기하였다. 이러한 작업을 통해 일상적인 문제들을 다른 시각에서 새롭게 고찰하고자 한다.

This work visualizes certain aspects of our daily life that have been displaced by desolate anonymity and insensitive moments occurring in modern society. My video raises questions on the rigid shapes, emotional indifference and authoritative masculinity of conventional sculptures in public spaces. To counteract this type of public art, I combine the fluid body movement of performance with the feminine softness of a custom-made costume.

 

 

심은정

1988년생으로 동아대학교 조소과 졸업 후, 동 대학원에서 미술교육 석사 과정을 마쳤다. <빨간 조각>, <담아요>, <나를 믿자> 등 다수의 퍼포먼스 영상을 제작했다.

 

SIM Eunjeong

Born in 1988, she received a BA Fine Art and a MA in Art Education from Dong-A University in Busan. Mainly working with performance and video, she has created a number of video based on performance including Red Sculpture and Let’s Trust me.
