ARTIST'S STATEMENT

나는 재개발의 광풍 속에서 유년시절을 보냈던 집이 사라져 가는 과정을 목격해야 했다. <집 향>은 이주가 막 끝나고 처연할 정도로 공허한 재개발 지역의 빈집들을 돌아다니며 채취한 잔해들을 재료로 향수를 만드는 과정을 보여준다. 프루스트가 향기를 통해 과거를 회상했듯, 집의 잔해로 만든 <집 향>은 나의 유년 시절의 추억과 기억이 베어있는 옛집을 회상하게 하는 매개물이다. 또한 주거의 의미는 사라진 채 부동산 잠재성에만 집중하는 현대사회의 자본 위주의 논리에 의해 사라져버린 집들에 대한 모뉴먼트이다.

I saw that my childhood home along with my memories of that time had disappeared through the insanity of urban renewal. Homesickness shows the process of making a perfume called ‘homesickness’ out of debris that I collected from empty houses in the redevelopment area after all the residents moved out. Proust could recall his past through a familiar smell; this perfume, likewise, is a vehicle to remind me of the house full of my memories. Also, it is a memorial to other houses that have vanished due to the logic of capitalism in contemporary society which sees a house not as a place to live but as real estate with economic potential.

안상범은 1991년 인천 생이며, 건국대학교 현대미술학과를 재학 중이다. 2014년 <일현 트래블 그랜트> (일현 미술관) 등에 참여하였다.

Sangbum Ahn was born in Incheon in 1991. He studies Contemporary Art in Kunkuk University and participated in Ilhyun Travel Grant at Ilhyun Museum in 2014.
