DESCRIPTION

이 영화는 호주 원주민 여성들의 착취 역사를 참신한 방식으로 대담하게 그렸다. 개척자와 원주민 여성의 첫만남을 현대 도시에서 애써 생활하는 원주민 여성들의 모습과 병치시켜 대조한다.  이 영화는 억압과 강제적인 침묵이 의식을 형성함을 인지하는 호주 원주민 여성들의 시각을 음악, 이미지 그리고 화면 속 텍스트들을 통하여 보여준다.    

This stylistically daring film audaciously explores the history of exploitation between white men and Aboriginal women, juxtaposing the first encounter between colonizers and native women with the attempts of modern urban Aboriginal women to reverse their fortunes. Through counterpoint of sound, image, and printed text, the film conveys the perspective of Aboriginal women while acknowledging that oppression and enforced silence still shape their consciousness.

 

트레이시 모팻 

1960년, 호주에서 태어난 트레이시 모팻은 대학에서 시각 커뮤니케이션을 전공했다. 그녀는 1987년 첫 작품 <나이스 걸 Nice Coloured Girls>로 국제적인 관심을 끌며 등장했고, 이후 <어둠 속의 비명: 전원의 비극 Night Cries: A Rural Tragedy>(1990)과 장편 데뷔작인 <신들리다 Bedevil >(1993)가 각각 칸 영화제 경쟁부문에 진출했다. 또한 뛰어난 사진작가이기도 한 트레이시 모팻의 작품은 전 세계의 전시회를 통해 많은 대중에게 소개된 바 있다.

 Tracey MOFFATT

Tracey Moffatt is an Australian artist who primarily uses photography and video. Born in Brisbane in 1960, she holds a degree in visual communications from the Queensland College of Art, graduating in 1982. Her works are held in the collections of the Tate, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, National Gallery of Australia, and Art Gallery of New South Wales.
