DESCRIPTION

이 비디오는 남성의 육체를 바라보는 여성의 시각으로 욕구의 표현을 보여준다. <헤븐>은 욕실에 오고 들어가며 수영복을 갈아입는 건장한 서퍼들을 몰래 녹화한 화면에서 시작한다. 사운드 트랙이 바다 소리에서 남성의 구호소리로 바뀌면서, 모팻은 멋을 부리며 마초처럼 행동하는 남성을 유혹하거나 놀리기 위해 다가간다. 이 작품은 일상에서의 성역할, 관음증, 권력 등을 재기있게 영화로 남긴 기록물이다.    

This playful video from famed director and photographer Tracey Moffatt turns the tables on traditional representations of desire to examine the power of the female gaze in the objectification of men’s bodies. HEAVEN begins with surreptitiously taped documentary footage of brawny surfers changing in and out of bathing and wet-suits. While the soundtrack switches between the ocean surf and male chanting, Moffatt moves closer to alternately flirt with and tease her subjects, who respond with a combination of preening and macho reticence. This witty piece is a potent and hilarious meditation on cinematic and everyday sex roles, voyeurism, power, and the thin line between admiration and invasiveness.

 

트레이시 모팻 

1960년, 호주에서 태어난 트레이시 모팻은 대학에서 시각 커뮤니케이션을 전공했다. 그녀는 1987년 첫 작품 <나이스 걸 Nice Coloured Girls>로 국제적인 관심을 끌며 등장했고, 이후 <어둠 속의 비명: 전원의 비극 Night Cries: A Rural Tragedy>(1990)과 장편 데뷔작인 <신들리다 Bedevil >(1993)가 각각 칸 영화제 경쟁부문에 진출했다. 또한 뛰어난 사진작가이기도 한 트레이시 모팻의 작품은 전 세계의 전시회를 통해 많은 대중에게 소개된 바 있다.

 Tracey MOFFATT

Tracey Moffatt is an Australian artist who primarily uses photography and video. Born in Brisbane in 1960, she holds a degree in visual communications from the Queensland College of Art, graduating in 1982. Her works are held in the collections of the Tate, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, National Gallery of Australia, and Art Gallery of New South Wales.
