DESCRIPTION

“알라(Allah)의 아흔아홉 가지 이름도 물론 있지만, 쉰두 가지의 니거(nigger)도 있다. 그래서 나는 이 니거들 중에 두 가지를 연주하려고 한다.” 이는 미국의 보컬리스트 겸 피아니스트인 줄리어스 이스트먼의 설명으로, 그 작곡의 결과물은 ‘니거 시리즈(Nigger Series)’의 악한 니거(Evil Nigger)와 크레이지 니거(Crazy Nigger)이다. 또한 게이 게릴라(Gay Guerilla)도 선보여진다.

ʺThere are of course 99 names of Allah, but there are 52 niggers. So, therefore, I will be playing two of these niggers.ʺ According to the American vocalist and pianist Julius Eastman and that results in the compositions Evil Nigger and Crazy Nigger, from the 'Nigger Series'.  오톨리스 그룹 

2002년에 결성된 오톨리스 그룹은 런던에 거주하며 작업하는 앤젤리카 사가르(Anjalika Sagar)와 코드워 에션(Kodwo Eshun)으로 구성된다. 갤러리의 맥락 내에서 무빙 이미지, 아카이브, 소리와 청각 자료들을 탐구한다. 그들의 작품은 연구를 기반으로 하는데, 특히 형식에서는 에세이 영화에 집중한다. 이는 환경, 사건, 역사를 가장 확장된 형태로 바라보도록 시도하기 위함이다.
 

 The Otolith Group 

The Otolith Group was founded in 2002 and consists of Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun who live and work in London. They explore the moving image, the archive, the sonic and the aural within the gallery context. The work is research based and in particular has focused on the essay film as a form that seeks to look at conditions, events and histories in their most expanded form.
