Artist's Statement

경제의 발전은 개인의 삶에서 ‘빈곤’ 이라는 악을 물리치는 ‘선’으로 인정되어왔다. 이러한 서사구조는 우리가 과학적으로 분석하고 예측한다고 믿고 있는 경제발전에 대한 인식 태도가 선과 악의 대결로 그려내는 종교적 서사와 유사하다는 것을 보여준다. 그러나 현재의 발전은 개인의 세속적인 풍요로운 삶과 점차 괴리되어 발전 자체의 시스템을 순환 유지시키고 있는 아이러니를 발견하게 된다.

The development of economy has been recognized as 'good' to defeat the evil of 'poverty' in an individual's life. This narrative structure shows that the perception of economic development, which we believe to be scientifically analyzed, perceived, and predicted, is similar to religious narratives drawn from the confrontation of good and evil.
However, it seems that the current development is gradually distancing from the secular rich life of the individual, thereby circulating the system of development itself. Here, economic development separates from worldly desires and finds irony which itself proceeds to complete religious sanctity.

김원화

김원화는 뉴미디어 작가이다. 서울대 서양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업하고 작가로 활동하고 있다. 자본주의 발전론의 위기와 관련된 주제로 건축물 모형과 기계장치를 이용한 작업을 하고 있다. 전시이력으로는 2015년 Catedral MAX,더 미디엄, 2012년, 금호 영아티스트전: Launch Pad, 금호 미술관, 2011년, Priapism, 쿤스트독, 등의 개인전 경력이 있으며, 주요 기획전으로는 2016년 복숭아 꽃이 피었습니다, 문화역 서울 284, 2013년 경기아트프로젝트: 기계 생명을 꿈꾸다, 경기도 미술관, 2012년 서울국제미디어아트 비엔날레 ‘Spellon You’, DMC홍보관 등 다수에 참여한 이력이 있다.

KIM Wonhwa

Kim Wonhwa is a artist of newmedia, obtaining BA and MA degreesin painting from Seoul National University. She is now engaged in works under subject relating to crisis of theory of democratic development by using architecture models and mechanical devices.
