DESCRIPTION
수평의 좁고 가느다란 고화질 비디오 스크린에 움직이는 기차에서 보이는 풍경이 나타난다. 움직이는 기차의 반복적인 소음은 점차 잦아들고 좁은 시야는 사라지기 전에 변형을 시도한다. 비디오는 군데군데 눈으로 덮인 산 너머 겨울의 푸른 빛과 지나치는 나무 그림자들의 제한적인 풍경만을 보여준다. 소리가 적을 때, 미세한 소음이 더 잘 들리는 것처럼, 어둠 속의 작은 불빛도 눈에 더 잘 띈다.
Underline uses a narrow horizontal fragment of the high definition video screen to depict a view of the landscape seen from a traveling train. The repetitive noise of the moving train gradually shifts to moments of silence, and the narrow field of view changes shape before vanishing. We see a limited image of the winter-blue light over the mountains partly covered with snow, and the passing shadow of trees. When it is silent a weak noise becomes more considerable, and the same goes with a little light in the dark.

파라드 칼란타리 파라드 칼란타리(타브리즈, 1962)는 무빙이미지를 주로 다루는 이란/미국의 시각 예술가 겸 큐레이터이다. 그는 1992년에 샌프란시스코 주립대학교 학사를, 1996년에 샌프란시스코 아트 인스티튜트에서 순수미술석사를 취득하였다. 미국, 영국, 프랑스에서 작업을 했었고 지금은 오슬로와 노르웨이에서 작업을 한다. 칼란타리는 일상 속 시적인 것들을 무빙 이미지의 잠재성으로 탐구한다. 그의 작품은 영화와 회화 사이의 간격과 더불어,사운드와 이미지의 관계성, 공간과 인지에 집중한다. 2003년에 세워진 노르웨이 오슬로의 필름 & 비디오 아트 기관인 아토피아의 공동 설립자이자 아티스트 대표이다.

Farhad KALANTARY Farhad KALANTARY (Tabriz, 1962) is an Iranian/American visual artist and curator working with the moving image. He Studied at San Francisco Art Institute (MFA, 1996) and San Francisco State University (BA, 1992). He has worked in the US, England, France and Germany and he is now based in Oslo, Norway. Kalantary’s works are preoccupied with the poetics of everyday life as they explore the potentiality of the moving image. His main topics of research are the relationship of sound and image, the link between place and perception, along with the space of the cinematic versus the painterly. Kalantary also works as a curator of artists’ moving image works and he is the co-founder and artistic leader of Atopia, a place for film & video art in Oslo since 2003. |
