“cinder”는 재를 뜻하는 단어로, 또 다른 (흩날리는) 재인 “ash”와는 다르게 여전히 고체이지만 만지면 바스러지며 사라지는 타고 남은 숯덩이, 즉 죽음과 삶의 경계에 있는 존재를 뜻한다. 작가는 고속도로 바로 옆에 위치한 재생 시멘트 공장을 방문하였는데, 이때 “재생”과 “시멘트” 사이의 간극에서 발생하는 부산물과 공기 중에 날리는 부연 미분을 포착하게 된다. 산업 폐기물이나 터널 공사 시 발생하는 돌무더기를 시멘트로 재가공하는 재생 산업 공간을 탐험하는 ⟪CINDERS⟫에서는 매끈한 고속도로 위 가수면 상태의 중얼거림을 시작으로 그 발화가 물질로 전이되는 도입부를 거치며, 기계 신체 내부의 슬러지와 재가공 되지 못/아니하고 남아있는 찌꺼기가 극도로 노이즈 낀 화면을 통과한다.

"Cinder" means, unlike the drifting ashes known as "ash", still solid but crumble upon touch, signifying existence on the boundary between life and death. While visiting a recycled cement factory located right next to a highway, the artist captures the byproducts and airborne particulates occurring in the gap between "recycle" and "cement." In this video work ⟪CINDERS⟫, exploring spaces of industrial regeneration where rubble from industrial waste or tunnel construction is repurposed into cement, this video transitions from the smooth surface of a highway, starting with murmurs of monologue, to the voice of matter. It traverses through a heavily noisy screen, depicting sludge within the machinery's body and leftover debris that remains unrecycled.
