ARTIST'S NOTE
이 작품은 5.18 광주 민주화 운동 당시 '주남마을 버스 총격 사건'으로 사망한 고 박현숙 님의 시점에서 만들어진 가상의 기록 필름이다. 옛 전남도청으로 대표되는 광주 시내에서의 참상 외에도 아직 진실이 밝혀지지 않은 민간인 학살이 광주와 인근 곳곳에 감추어져 있다. 작품은 '이야기되지 않은 죽음'과 '지금의 광주'를 내레이션과 영상으로 교차시켜 과거와 현재를 직조함으로써 지금의 대한민국을 가능케 한 삶과 죽음을 전면에 드러내고자 했다. 이것은 집으로 돌아가지 못한 이들을 위한 집, 관에 대한 이야기이다.
This work is a virtual record film created from the perspective of the late Park Hyun-sook, who died in the 'Joonam village bus shooting incident' during the May 18th Gwangju democratization movement. In addition to the tragedy in downtown Gwangju, represented by the former Jeollanam-do Provincial Government Office, there are still civilian massacres hidden throughout Gwangju and its surrounding areas whose truth has not yet been revealed. The work intersects the "untold deaths" and the "current Gwangju" through narration and images, weaving together the past and present to reveal the life and death that made present-day South Korea possible. This is a story about home and coffins for those who could not return home.
DESCRIPTION
1980년 5월, 광주. 계엄군의 무력 진압에 사망자가 속출하자 광주 시내에는 시신을 담을 관이 부족해진다. 19세 여학생 박현숙은 시민군과 함께 버스를 타고 광주를 빠져나가 화순으로 관을 구하러 간다. 그러나 광주 외곽 주남마을 인근에서 길목을 지키고 있던 계엄군은 버스를 향해 무차별 총격을 퍼붓는다. 현숙을 비롯한 버스 안의 시민들은 사망한다. 40년이 지난 지금 박현숙이 어떻게 왜 죽었는지 제대로 밝혀지지 않았다. 하지만 광주시민들은 그때 관을 구하러 갔던 박현숙의 마음과 달라진 것이 하나 없다. 지금의 방식으로 삶을 살아가며 그들을 애도하고 기념하며, 축제를 만들어간다.
In May 1980, in Gwangju, as the number of casualties rose due to the military's use of force, there was a shortage of coffins in the city. 19-year-old female student, Park Hyun-sook, joined the citizens' army and took a bus to leave Gwangju and go to Hwasun to obtain coffins. However, the military guarding the road near Joonam village on the outskirts of Gwangju indiscriminately fired at the bus. Hyun-sook and other citizens on the bus died. Even after 40 years, it has not been properly revealed how and why Park Hyun-sook died. However, Gwangju citizens have not changed their hearts from what Hyun-sook had when she went to get coffins back then. They mourn and commemorate them in the current way of life, and create festivals.

영화과를 졸업하고 땅도프로덕션을 운영하여 오래동안 납품영상을 만들었다. 클라이언트의 거듭된 수정 요청에 숨이 막힐때면 원래 나의 꿈이었던 다큐멘터리가 자꾸 생각이 났다. 이제 납품을 멈추고 다큐멘터리를 만든다.
After graduating from the film school, I founded production company and made videos for a long time. Whenever I was sick and tired of the client's repeated requests, I kept thinking of the documentary that was originally my dream. Now I stop making videos for the clients and make my own documentary.
