ARTIST'S NOTE
작가는 이 작업을 통해 디지털 가상공간의 요소를 활용하여 하나의 몸에서 벗어나 다종다양한 몸이 되어 보고자 구현한다. 기존의 생태감각을 확장해 인간만이 세상을 해결할 수 있다는 과거의 세계관에서 벗어나 동식물, 무생물, 자연, 기술 등의 비인간과 관계 맺기를 시도하며 새로운 윤리를 찾는 실험을 진행한다. 궁극적으로 이 작업을 통해 작가는 나는 누구인지, 그리고 인간이란 과연 무엇이며, 앞으로 우리는 어떤 인간이 되어야 하는가에 대한 근본적인 질문을 던진다.
Through this work, the artist utilizes the elements of digital virtual space to materialize to get out of one body and become a diverse body. By expanding the existing sense of ecology, she move away from the past world view that only humans can solve the world, and conduct experiments to find new ethics by trying to establish relationships with non-humans such as animals and plants, inanimate objects, nature, and technology. Ultimately, through this work, the artist asks fundamental questions about who I am, what a human being really is, and what kind of human beings we should become in the future.
DESCRIPTION
<액체 몸체>(2022)는 액체처럼 무경계 상태의 존재들이 서로의 몸을 오가며 서술되는 3D 그래픽 애니메이션이다.
이 작업은 멸종동물로부터 출발한 리서치를 확장해 비둘기, 개, 멍게, 세포, 바다, 우주에 이르기까지 경계를 넘나들며 다른 ‘몸-되기’의 경험을 구현한다.
구체적으로는 사적인 관계로 맺어진 도시 비둘기, 애견 또리의 몸 등 여러 몸을 이동하며 시공간을 횡단한다. 화자는 계속해서 몸을 바꿔가며 물질과 정신, 신체와 영혼 등을 교차하다 멍게 이야기를 들려준다. GIS를 기반으로 스캔한 도시 풍경은 우주를 지나 다시 바다로 돌아간다. 멍게는 미래적인 시선에서 지구의 환경을 결정하는 바다의 가능성으로 존재한다.
Liquid Bodies(2022) is a 3D graphic animation in which beings in a borderless state like liquid move back and forth between each other's bodies.
This work expands the research that started with extinct animals, crossing the boundaries of pigeons, dogs, sea squirts, cells, the sea, and the universe, realizing other experiences of ‘becoming a body’.
Specifically, she traverses time and space by moving various bodies, such as a city pigeon in a personal relationship and the body of a pet dog. The narrator continues to change her body and intersects matter and spirit, body and soul, etc., before telling the story of sea squirt. Cityscapes scanned based on GIS pass through space and return to the sea. Sea squirt exists as the possibility of the sea that determines the environment of the earth from a futuristic perspective.

정혜정은 지구의 다른 유기체들과의 공생, 비거니즘, 에코페미니즘 등의 키워드를 중심으로 자연과 미디어, 인간과 비인간, 유기물과 무기물 같이 분리되어 온 개념들을 횡단한다. 다종다양한 세계가 얽히고 변화하는 상호작용을 탐색하는 과정에서 경계를 넘나드는 주체들을 사변적 우화의 방법으로 작품에 끌어들인다. 작업 전반에 있어서 ‘물’과 ‘액체성’은 주요한 키워드인데, 흐르고, 감싸고, 연결시키는 물은 우리가 놓치고 있거나, 잊고 있거나, 타자화시켰던 존재들로 향하는 새로운 길을 만들어주기도 한다. 매체적으로는 드로잉, 영상, 설치, 글, 상황 개입 등을 통해 기존 세계의 법칙을 뒤흔드는 작업을 이어왔다. 최근에는 3D컴퓨터 그래픽 기술을 토대로 가상현실로 시공간을 확장시키며, 생태학과 미디어아트의 교차점을 그리는 것에 집중하고 있다.
탈영역 우정국(2017), 대안공간 루프(2022)에서 개인전을, 페리지갤러리, 국립아시아문화전당, 상상마당, 세화미술관, 제주도립미술관, 금호미술관 등에서 그룹전을 했으며, 부천 판타스틱 영화제(2021) 단편걸작선, 네마프 대안영상예술 뉴미디어 부분(2022)에 작품이 선정되었다. 고양창작스튜디오, 인천아트플랫폼, APEX ART(뉴욕), 금천예술공장 등에서 레지던시를 하였고, 부산현대미술관, 인천문화재단, 청년 예술청, 아르코 아카이브에 작품이 소장되어 있다.Jung Haejung traverses concepts that were divided into the natural and media, human and non-human, and organic and inorganic matter. She focuses on concepts such as symbiosis with other organisms on Earth, veganism, and eco-feminism. Jung use speculative fabulation to incorporate subjects into her work that cross boundaries over the process of exploring the interactions through which different worlds become interwoven and undergo change. In the overall work, ‘water’ and ‘liquidity’ are the main keywords, and the water that flows, envelops, and connects also creates a new path toward beings that we have missed, forgotten, or otherwise made others. She continues to create works that defy the existing natural laws of the world through drawing, video, installation, writing, and intervention. She has recently been focusing on the production of works in virtual reality environments based on 3D computer graphics technology.
She has held five solo exhibitions including Seoul2016 Winter(Post Territory Uijeongguk, 2017)and has participated in special exhibitions including Trouble Travel(Perigee Gallery, 2022), Plastic Love(KT&G Sandsandmadang, 2019) and Wonder City(Sehwa Museum of Art, 2018). Her work is housed in the collections of institutions including the Museum of Conterporary Art Busan, Incheon Foundation for Art&Culture, and Arko Archive.
