<뉘앙스>는 HIV 감염인과 그의 비감염인 연인 관계의 감정적 풍경을 42장의 사진 모음으로 묘사한다. 나레이션과 사운드트랙에 맞춰 등장하며 의미를 쌓아 가는 사진들은 이 연인 관계 속 미묘하게 변화하는 추상적인 감정선을 조합한다. 영상은 U=U(undetectable=untransmittable, 미검출=감염불가) 이론의 과학적인 사실을 넘어 혈청 불일치 관계(서로 다른 HIV 감염 상태를 가진 사람들 간의 관계)의 심리적인 측면과 신뢰할 수 있는 약물 치료임에도 불구하고 뿌리 깊이 내린 오명으로 인해 단절될 수 있는 친밀감을 탐구한다.

In Nuance, Jaewon Kim expresses the emotional landscape of a romantic relationship through an unfolding collection of 42 photographs. The images accumulate meaning in relation to the narrator’s words and the video’s soundtrack, piecing together an abstract picture of the nuances of this relationship. The video goes beyond the mere scientific reality of U=U to explore the psychological nature of a serodiscordant relationship—a relationship between two people with different HIV statuses—and how, even in spite of reliable medication, pervasive stigma still has the potential to disrupt connection.
