ARTIST'S NOTE

본 작품은 드세르토(De Certeau)가 그의 [일상생활에서의 실천(The Practice of Everyday Life) ]에서 언급한 보행도시와 컨셉도시의 개념에 영감을 받아 도시 공간이 어떻게 국가 권력에 의해 개발되고 구획되어 지어지는가에 대해서 영상 및 오브제 설치를 진행한 전작(계획자의 의자 _ 이카루스의 시선 2015. 2019)의 연장선에 있다. 전시는 계획자의 시선에서 비추어지는 공간의 개발과 구획화, 변화와 파괴에 대한 이야기이다. 영상은 구글 어스의 히스토리 이미지를 편집해 태양을 향해 날아가는 이카루스가 조망할 것 같은 시선에서 서울과 근교의 일부 뉴타운 지역이 2000년대 초반부터 이 십년간 변해간 흔적을 애니메이션 기법으로 드러낸다. 작가는 작품을 통해 신자유주의적 개발과 이로 인한 공간의 사라짐의 문제에 대해 이야기하고자 한다.

This work is in continuation of its previous series of works - <The planner's chair _ Icarus Gaze 2015. 2019> which were video installation over object, inspired by De Certeau's notion of concept city and pedestrian city in his book [The Practice of Everyday Life], dealing with how urban spaces are being developted and being manipulated by the authoritarian power.

The work is a visualization of the development, partitioning, change and destruction of city space from the perspective of the city planning entity, as if from the perspective of Icarus flying towards the sun. In the video, the historic snapshot of Google Earth is edited to reveal the traces of the changes in Seoul and some of the new-town areas in the metropolitan area over the past two decades from the early 2000s. The artist attempts to talk about neoliberal development and the resulting disappearance of space.
