삶의 방향을 잡을 때 우리가 느끼는 절망은 깊은 불안의 근원이 되었고, 이는 학생인 우리에게 무엇보다도 해당하는 사실이다. 우리의 눈에 변화를 축하하는 행위는 실질적인 의미가 없는, 단지 상징적이기만 한 표현일 뿐이다. 정부의 결정에 대응하는 방식으로는 시위를 비롯한 다양한 방식이 종종 사용되고, 이는 겉보기에 성대하지만 명확한 본질은 가지고 있지 않다. 이러한 시위들은 흔히 분노와 슬픔부터 방향과 희망을 잃은 상실감까지 다양한 감정들을 반영한다. 이 현상은 명확성이 부재한 상태가 어떻게 저항정신을 약화시키는지 드러내고, 해당 상황에서 본질은 스스로를 상징화하고 주의를 끌고자 하는 행위 때문에 빛을 잃게 되며, 그 와중 불확실성의 그림자는 매일 울려 퍼진다. 학생인 우리는, 비판적 참여를 하고 있다는 착각을 불러일으키는 민주주의 관련 축제 행사에 당연히 열광한다. 그러나 그 단계 이후에는 무엇이 오는가? 우리는 현 시대에서 그러한 축하가 분명히 실재하는 현실이 되기에는 아직 멀었다고 느끼게 된다. 과거 시위들에 대한 찬양을 경험하고 들으면서도 말이다. 우리는 이것이 집단 책임으로 남아있다고 생각한다.

이 영화는 내게 개인적인 의미가 있는 작업으로, 저항에 기반한 구분의 행위를 인식하고 나의 이상주의적 감각을 키울 수 있었다. 이 영화는 내 대학교 시절과 졸업의 끝에 만들어졌는데, 이는 내가 학생을 주제로 한 영화를 만들어본 적이 없었기 때문이다. 고민이 되는 것은 졸업 이후에 나와 내 친구들에게 갈림길 끝에서 두 가지 선택이 주어질 것 같다는 점인데, 이상주의에 따를 것을 선택하지 않으면 지금껏 일구어온 모든 것을 버리고 계속 살아가야 할 것이다. 이 영화의 대부분은 조코 위도도가 대통령직에서 물러나기 전 마지막 시위 현장에서 촬영되었다.

The despair we feel in navigating life has become a source of deep unrest, particularly as students. We perceive celebrations of change as merely symbolic displays that lack true meaning. In responding to government decisions, various mediums, such as demonstrations, are often employed—grand in appearance but devoid of clear substance. These demonstrations frequently reflect emotions ranging from anger and sorrow to a loss of direction and hope. This phenomenon reveals how the spirit of struggle can be eroded by a lack of clarity, where substance is overshadowed by self-symbolism and the pursuit of attention, while the shadows of uncertainty continue to resonate each day. Indeed, as students, we revel in the democratic festivities that give the illusion of critical engagement. However, once that phase is over, what comes next? We feel that such celebrations in the current era have yet to manifest into tangible realities, even as we experience and hear the glorification of demonstrations from the past. This, we believe, remains a collective responsibility.

This film is a personal work for me, where I can feel the act of demarcation from protesting and can foster my sense of idealism. This film was made at the end of my college years and graduation because I had never made a film about students before. The question is after graduating I think my friends and I have two choices at the end of a crossroads, which one to choose to stick to idealism or continue life and leave everything that has been fostered. This film mainly shot at the last demonstration before Joko Widodo resign from his presidential chair.
