<타인의 풍경>은 대만이 전쟁을 겪은 직후 금문도(진먼, 金門)를 뒤덮은 전염병에 대한 이야기를 다룬다. 이야기의 핵심에는 땅을 파는 두 가지 행위가 있는데, 이는 각각 무덤을 파헤치는 행위와 백토를 찾기 위한 행위에 해당한다. 숨겨진 일화를 드러내고 사건 간 새로운 연결을 조성하기 위해, 이 실험적 다큐멘터리는 16mm 필름으로 녹화한 여행기, 드로잉 기법을 사용한 기록에 대한 명상, 전자 음향 합성, 그리고 음성을 한데 엮는다. 전염병 생존자의 회상담은 모든 조각들이 만나는 공통 영역이 된다. 증거의 조각들과 픽션을 서로 맞추어 보는 행위는 금문도 사람들의 정체성을 견고한 역사적 서사로부터 해방시키고자 하는, 현재 진행 중인 작업에 상응한다. 이 단편영화는 뮤지션 닉 차이 (Nick Tsai) 와 화가 친멩슈엔 (CHIN Meng-Hsuan) 과의 연속된 협동 작업에 해당하며, 이들은 서로 다른 자신만의 예술적 형태를 통해 대만의 주관성에 대해 사색한다.

The Othered Scene follows a tale of the plague that struck the Quemoy islands during the immediate post-war period in Taiwan. Two acts of digging lie at the heart of the tale: digging the grave and for the white clay. To uncover the obscured anecdotes and open up new connections of events, this experimental documentary interweaves 16mm film travelogue, meditation on archive through drawing, electronic sound composition, and voice. The reminiscence of a plague survivor becomes the meeting ground for all the fragments. Assembling the pieces of evidence and fiction is equivalent to a work in progress for setting loose the identity of the islanders from any firm historical narrative. The short film belongs to a series of collaboration with musician Nick Tsai and painter CHIN Meng-Hsuan, who are invited to reflect on the Taiwanese subjectivity through different artistic forms.
